5.3.2. Setting up an Organization

For a small organization, like a research group or small company, we suggest the following approach:

1. Create a Group: Invite all permanent group members as “Developer” or “Reporter”.

2. Create Subgroups with designated Owners for distinct research areas, projects, labs, etc.

3. Invite additional Users: Add external collaborators and temporary members directly to Subgroups

4. Gradually escalate Privileges. Members of Subgroups should be able to take advantage of GitLab’s features
